On a pleasant Los Angeles day, sun shining, palm trees in all their glory I pulled out the driveway in my suburban tank not expecting anything but a beautiful drive to campus. Im no racer but a smooth drive was to be expected. Up until one point where there is a four way intersection where cars turn right and left on every turn. I was seeing a yellow light and decided to run it when at 70 miles per hour crashed completely into a Toyota van turning left. Boom.
Before the collision, I was a good student and had the world in front me for the taking, eyes shut and slamming the breaks, hyper beamed into the side of a car. After the collision when I opened my eyes, I had come to a fantastic conclusion. I was no better then than I was now except that I am now a survivor. My suburban tank although had done its job to protect me, the entire engine was gone and so were the front tires.
Before anyone asks if my life flashed before my eyes, the short answer is yes and no. The truth is I saw a white flash inside the eye of my mind at the same time of the collision and felt the burning rubber of a powerful airbag. To describe the experience, it was like getting punched in the entire upper body by Mike Tyson. The adrenaline was coursing through my body and I had never been so alert. I didn’t know if I should cry or call my mother but being that close to the grave is always the best adventure in my eyes. Another miracle performed by God for all you atheists out there, you just need a near death experience to really understand how profoundly blessed one person actually is.
On the other hand, the Toyota van I crashed into had but a little dent on its side door. I don’t know whether its because that car was made of steel or whether it was because my car was made of aluminum but I was very surprised by the lackluster of damage I had caused. No one was hurt, and that is truly what matters at the end of the day. So the lesson I learned now is to observe traffic at below 10 miles per hour below the speed limit because you really never know what the other driver is going to do which is a scenario that can be very scary at times especially when you’re moving fast.
In the end, my mother had to come get me and send me off to rugby camp where I could hit and get hit without thinking too much about it. I guess I really just do love adrenaline. Would I recommend crashing cars? No, but one thing I would recommend about driving, is to enjoy it and at a good pace. And probably get a steel made car even though it's heavier.

The car of my dreams.
